Call for Proposals for International Teams in Space Science

Dear Colleagues,

We kindly remind you that January 14 is the deadline for abstract submission for the
EGU General Assembly to be held on April 13–18, 2008 in Vienna.

In particular we would like to draw your attention to two Symposia which are relevant to the Venus investigations.
1. The special session PS 3.3 "Venus Express: two years in orbit" (Conveners: D.Titov,
H. Svedhem)
2. PS 3.5 "Atmospheres of terrestrial planets" (Conveners: W. Markiewicz, F. Montmessin)

We agreed that PS 3.3 will consist ONLY of solicited talks that will give an overview of the Venus Express highlights.
We would like to encourage you to submit the contributed papers related to the Venus studies to the PS 3.5 Symposium.
At the level of the EGU Programme Committee we will arrange that PS 3.5 will follow PS 3.3
to ensure logical translation from the invited reviews in PS 3.3 to more detailed contributed papers in PS 3.5.

If you have already submitted your talk to PS 3.3 you do not need to do anything.
We will forward your abstracts to the PS 3.5.

Best regards

Dima Titov
Hakan Svedhem
Conveners of the PS 3.3

First Venus Express VIRTIS Images Peel Away the Planet's Clouds

By Emily Lakdawalla
April 14, 2006
The first image released from the Visible and Infrared Thermal Imaging Spectrometer (VIRTIS) aboard Venus Express reveals a subtly detailed, swirling patterns in the upper levels of Venus' thick and complex atmosphere. The image has also, for the first time, shown that Venus has a southern "polar vortex" matching the one discovered at the north pole by the Pioneer Venus mission in 1978.
